Abstraction can be defined as the process of considering something independently of its associations or attributes**. Red, white, and blue. Blue, white, red. Many associations, few attributes. From classic Vespa helmets to the flags of many nations, these three colors (together, and apart) have spoken to and about identity in myriads of places, languages, and times. We feel the heat of fire, the drive of rain and wind. We see blood flow red and white clouds sail across a blue sky. We hear of a sunset where the contrast of warm sunlight and cool ozone was the magic that moved the watcher to try and capture it in verbal form, to hold on to the fleeting visual joy for a bit longer.
The simple design of national flags is evident in its power and momentum. The abstraction of fabric and color somehow conveys meaning, somehow can tempt even the most diehard national questioner into a blush of homeland feeling (on occasion, at least.) Independent of associations: color, fabric, line, and form can move you. In this new jersey design, we appeal to the power and beauty inherent in these colors, in this pattern, in these visual attributes. We draw from associations with the tradition of European cycling, with flags and with kits and with bunting and with armbands. Classic TSH, in a new form.
Be bold and be moved! Feel like a champ in this classic design balanced between disparate and complementary elements.
